In preparation for the new season in a country of football fans, Orange and Movistar+ are the first two Spanish first pay-TV operators to present their offers.

After a year-long negotiation, most pay-TV players have secured La Liga rights for next three seasons, as the country’s telecom authority, the CNMC, interceded to protect competition and extend the commercialisation of TV rights.

So far, Orange has launched the most aggressive football content offer, with a €10 package which includes beIN La Liga (first division and Copa del Rey matches), the Movistar+-programmed channel El Partidazo, and the recently launched second division network.

The Orange football package can be subscribed to independently, on top of a basic Orange TV subscription. This is the main difference with Movistar+, which, even though it offers exactly the same content, does so as part of a more price convergent offer.

In addition, as a pre-season offer, Orange is giving the football package for free to subscribers of the Orange TV service with the movies and series package.

In addition to Spanish football, both operators will also distribute the beIN Sports network with exclusive rights to the Champions League and the Europa League, as well as other international leagues.

Looking at both offers, Orange’s need to grow is evident, while Movistar+ enjoys a much more solid position in the Spanish pay-TV market. The French telco has just reported 380,000 subs while the Telefónica company is nearing four million.
