Vivendi is reportedly studying proposals to resolve the impasse on Mediaset Premium, reports Italian daily Il Sole 24 Ore. A possible new offer could be on the table at the end of August or early September.
The Italian daily suggests that Mediobanca may act as an intermediary in developing the proposals, after the Italian investment bank raised the prospect that a telecoms group could be brought into the picture. In this context, Telefonica owns 11 percent of Mediaset Premium and may play a role in a future compromise deal, according to industry commentators.
Other papers such as MF suggest that a compromise could involve bringing Telecom Italia in as a minority shareholder in Mediaset Premium. Vivendi is the controlling shareholder of Telecom Italia, and this would allow Mediaset to maintain around a third of the company, without having to consolidate its results. The recent cooling of Telecom's relationship with Sky could also open it to greater cooperation with Mediaset, the report said.
