Liberty Global, to which UPC belongs, today revealed a multi-year partnership with Netflix. This will lead to Netflix’s wide range of content being made available to UPC TV customers.

As part of Liberty Global, UPC Switzerland will make the Netflix app available to its Horizon customers in the coming months. There are also plans to launch the Netflix app in Austria.

The agreement with Netflix continues Liberty Global’s investment in content through acquisitions, partnerships and original commissions. UPC already offers its customers the best TV entertainment – through its OnDemand catalogue in both countries, for example, or with over 10,000 films and TV series on its own MyPrime platform in Switzerland. UPC is continuously expanding its TV offering in Switzerland with original productions such as sitcom series Die Lehrer, which will be available on MyPrime from this autumn, and sports channel MySports with exclusive sports content, which will launch mid-2017. Netflix’s wide range of content is an ideal addition to this. Further TV content from other providers is conceivable in the future.

Eric Tveter, CEO of UPC, said, delighted, “We are committed to bringing the best content to our customers, any time and on any device. This agreement with Netflix is an important step towards realising our vision.”

Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO, said of the agreement between Liberty Global and Netflix, “This partnership will allow millions of our mutual customers around the world to easily access the broadest range of TV shows and movies without having to search for that other remote control. Combining the Netflix app – and all the great content it provides – into the familiar, easy-to-use cable box makes both more appealing.”

When the Netflix app launches on Horizon, existing Netflix members will be able to log in and easily browse through Netflix’s line-up before watching their chosen content directly on their TV set. New customers to Netflix can simply sign up via the app right on the TV and begin to immediately enjoy this easy and convenient user experience.
