German cable operator Unitymedia has won 31,000 new customers for its multimedia home gateway Horizon in Q3 2016 which is now in a total of 558,000 households.
This corresponds with 9% of the TV customer base. The Horizon offer has been further expanded: The number of TV catch up services increased by 20 to more than 50 since the beginning of 2016; further apps were also added.
Unitymedia recently upgraded its whole cable network to an internet speed of 400Mbps which is now available to more than 10 million households throughout its footprint.
“With 400Mbps across our network, we have not reached the end. While others still talk about the networks of the future, we have already started preparations for the first gigabit cities,” Unitymedia CEO Lutz Schüler said in Cologne.
High speeds continue to be in demand: Three out of four new broadband customers opted for packages with 120Mbps or more in Q3 2016. With an average of around 90GB per month, Unitymedia households consume more than twice as much data as the average German household.
Below the line, the Liberty Global subsidiary gained 89,000 new customers in Q3 2016. 56,000 of them signed up for internet access, 49,000 for telephony.
