Multi-screen live programming is gaining importance for ESPN in Latin America, where it aims to increase its sports streaming footprint in 2017.
The US-based sports networks presented its LATAM 2017 plans and programming from Argentina.
“Live programming is powerful and essential to increase viewers’ digits, because it extends across different targets, groups and genres, generating high impact,” said Guillermo Tabanera, senior VP and GM, ESPN Latin America.
He highlighted the importance of the group’s four channels in the region (ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPN 3 and EPSN+) and the growing appeal of the mobile and digital platforms, as ESPN Play delivers 20,000 hours of live streaming each year and ESPN.com’s traffic has grown in the last year.
“Everything changes and becomes more dynamic, but our mission stays the same: offering the best content on every screen, committed to sports, high quality and accurate journalism,” added Tabanera.
Among other sports events for 2017, ESPN will air in Latin America the Champions and Europa League, Spain’s La Liga and England’s Premier League, the Moto GP and IndyCar competitions, the Rugby Championship and the Six Nations Tournament, all tennis Grand Slams and most of the ATP circuit, golf majors and masters, the entire NBA shared with DirecTV, the Tour de France and the Giro d’Italia.
