Leading satellite operator Eutelsat is acclaiming the 2016 version of its awards as showing the vibrancy of the TV market and the commitment of TV professionals to produce content that captivates audiences globally.


The 19th edition of the Eutelsat TV Awards were celebrated for the first time at the 1920s-built Palazzo del Ghiaccio in Milan, showcasing broadcasters for what the operator regarded as ‘exceptional’ creativity, innovation and audience engagement.’

Channels were assessed by an independent jury of leading journalists, programme makers and media commentators from around the world, choosing from a line-up of 120 channels from 37 countries.

The winners were Germany’s Fix&Foxi for children’s TV; Dom Kino in Russia for Cinema; home firm Sky Arte scooped the award for culture/documentary; Angola’s ZAP Viva was a hugely popular choice for fiction/general entertainment; Jordan’s Roya TV reigned in lifestyle; Poland’s 4fun.tv was on tune in the music category; France 24 reported a win for news; and RAI Sport 1 HD was top of the league in sport. The best programme award was shared by the BBC for its Iran’s Nuclear Deal and Deutsche Welle for Currentzis – The Classic Rebel. The ceremony ended in a high with the people’s choice, 2STV of Senegal, the first time it was won by an African channel.

Eutelsat also assigned a Special Award to Russia's Tricolor TV*for its inclusive multiplatform strategy, adding new HD content, launching Russia’s first Ultra HD channels, developing non-linear services as well as access to broadband for the many beyond range of terrestrial networks.
