French video infrastructure provider ATEME today announced that JSC Channel One Russia has selected ATEME’s contribution technology to support its international TV content exchange.

Channel One claims to be the premier company in the Russian Federation that broadcasts news, documentaries, feature film productions and entertainment programmes. As part of the deal, ATEME will be supplying its Kyrion encoder technology that has been designed for contribution over satellite and IP networks. Kyrion offers a software upgradable HEVC encoding option to support Ultra HD video streaming as well as legacy MPEG2 to H264 compressions. It also boasts value-added features such as ultra-low latency and ABR output.

Commenting on why the company made its choice of Kyrion, Valentina Udalova, network director at Channel One, said: “ATEME equipment was first introduced to Channel One Russia during the implementation of European Broadcast Union FUNA project (international news exchange) and it worked remarkably well. Compared [with] currently used equipment it has plenty of advantages such as small form factor, it's really lightweight and has unexpectedly low noise level. In addition, it offers a very fast boot time, an intuitively Web-based GUI with informative status and measurement features of the equipment and variety of licence options, which are included in a base package.”
