Eyeing Ultra HD satellite pay-TV delivery during the 2018 FIFA World Cup, SES’s commercial 4K platform is expanding into Latin America.
After having carried major space and ground infrastructure investments and expanded its Latin America video neighbourhood over the last year, SES will now bring its Ultra HD platform into the region to accelerate commercial 4K rollouts among cable, IPTV and direct-to-home (DTH) providers.
The all-in-one package of pre-configured Ultra HD content, reception equipment and satellite distribution enables easy 4K deployment throughout the region and, therefore, efficient Ultra HD testing ahead of the World Cup.
The SES Latin America Ultra HD solution will open with four Ultra HD channels, including NASA TV UHD, produced by Harmonic, as well as the SES Ultra HD demo channel, an incubator for emerging 4K content producers. SES plans to add new channels and content produced in Brazil and Mexico in the future.
The end-to-end 4K platform will be distributed over multiple SES satellites, with SES-6 dedicated to the Brazilian market; and SES’s NSS-806 satellite serving the rest of the region until it is replaced by SES-14.
