Crunchyroll, which claims to be the world's largest destination for anime and manga with a global community of more than 40 million registered users and over a million subscribers, is launching on linear TV in Brazil on 21 April.

The programme is landing on Rede Brasil (RBTV) with a specially programmed anime hour, featuring two subtitled shows, Black Clover and Re:Zero. The slot will also include around eight minutes of local programming from Crunchyroll's Brazilian community managers.

"This is our first programming expansion into linear TV internationally, and we're excited to bring anime fans in Brazil another avenue to connect through the content they love," said Crunchyroll VP of communications Joellen Ferrer. "Crunchyroll has always been digital-first, but ultimately, we are looking to create experiences that connect fans - we believe linear is another way for us to reach these passionate fans and want to give them the ability to choose when and where they are watching their favourite shows. There is an established and strong anime community in Brazil, and we hope this new, expanded programming can both engage them further and introduce new fans to this passionate culture."

Crunchyroll sees a particular opportunity in Brazil, regarding the country as one of the fastest growing markets and has a history of embracing anime. It added that when it started conversations with various station groups in the area, RBTV emerged as the best fit. "[RBTV] already broadcasts a successful anime programming block and were eager for fresh content. Crunchyroll is the largest distributor of anime programming, so our partnership was a natural progression," Ferrer added.
