Globo reaches more than 181MN with 2018 World Cup coverage

In the competition longer that the national football team, Brazil’s Globo is claiming what it said were excellent ratings for the 2018 World Cup with its accumulative reach of its 56 live broadcast games on open TV drawing more than 181 million people.

globotv 14 july 2018During the tournament, the average daily reach during the games was about 103 million people. In all of the games the Brazilian national team played, Globo reached a share of more than 80% of households with TVs connected during the time of the matches.

Average ratings during the transmission of the matches with the joint work of broadcasting the World Cup parties on different platforms – Globo, SporTV, Globoesporte.com, Globo Play, SporTV Play and TV 4K — was 25.5 million tuned Brazilians or connected by minute. In addition to the 181 million Brazilians reached with the matches in Globo, were 18.8 million with the transmissions in the SporTV. About 8.7 million people visited Globoesporte.com daily.

The station also claimed a win with social media, generating 2.4 million comments and almost a million interactions related to Globo’s coverage and transmission of the Cup, which also sent 62 terms to Twitter’s World Trending Topics, and 150 terms to the Twitter's Brazil Trending Topics. The 12 Facebook Live broadcasts produced during the Cup by Globo’s presenters in Russia reached over 11 million people with 3.8 million views.

The company says that such traffic and ratings reflect a high quality of planning for both content and coverage, which embraced sports, journalism and entertainment.
