PostSubject: Steady start to 2016 by Telefónica   Steady start to 2016 by Telefónica EmptySun May 01, 2016 7:10 am

Telefónica ended the first quarter with 3,727,800 pay-TV customers in its home market Spain.

Although this represented a 74.2% increase on the same period last year, this included the incorporation of DTS into the figures in Q2 2015.

In its latest set of results, Telefónica notes that in Spain Movistar Fusión had 4.2 million customers as of the end of Q1, up 9% year-on-year.

In the Consumer segment, Fusión accounted for 82% of fixed broadband customers, 74% of TV customers and 69% of mobile contract customers.

It also says it is significant that 30% of Fusión customers had ultrafast fibre and 66% pay-TV as of the end of Q1.

Telefónica as a whole had revenues of €10.784 billion in Q1, or 6.6% less than the reported figure a year earlier, while its OIBDA was, at €3.376 billion, 6.7% lower.

Its net income was €776 million, down 56.9% on the €1,8092 million reported in Q1 2015.

Commenting on the results, José María Álvarez-Pallete, executive chairman of Telefónica, explained that “in a context of intense technological disruption and transformation, our first quarter results reflected a strengthening of the business across the board and of the capacity of our platforms which is enabling us to reach more customers with higher value products and services”.

In addition, he emphasised the “the significance of the return to OIBDA growth in Spain during the quarter” as well as the fact that “the growth of the OIBDA is taking place in all the business units”.

Álvarez-Pallete also said that “the results are in line with our expectations for the year-end and enable us to reiterate our guidance and the dividend of €0.75/share for 2016”.
