During the first quarter of 2016, KPN’s DTT service Digitenne lost 21,000 subscribers and now totals 329,000.
The operator lost 88,000 during the past twelve months, or a loss of 21% of its DTT subscriber base. However, growth of the number of homes taking IPTV more than offsets this decline. At the moment KPN serves about three out of ten Dutch households with TV, making it the second largest TV platform after Ziggo.
KPN’s net adds in broadband (+22,000) and IPTV (+53,000) showed continued good growth during Q1 2016. Triple play net adds were 36,000, resulting in a 59% penetration of the broadband customer base (Q1 2015: 54%) and a growing number of RGUs per household (2.10 vs. 1.97 in Q1, 2015).
KPN’s current DTT licence will expire on February 1, 2017. Earlier, KPN has said it intends to continue to offer its DTT platform Digitenne.
The Dutch government is planning to introduce DVB-T2 when the current licences run out at the end of January, 2017.
