During the first weekend when all five were on air, the new Spanish free-to-air (FTA) networks didn’t exactly conquer audiences, accumulating less than a 2.5% share.

tdtAtresmedia’s Atreseries, the only one that has been airing for some time, got the highest rating, with a 0.8% share on Sunday, while Mediaset’s Be Mad and Radio Blanca’s DKiss got 0.5% each, and Real Madrid TV and Grupo Secuoya’s Ten took 0.3%.

These figures were way behind other themed FTA channels broadcast through the DTT network. Mediaset’s Factoria de Ficción and Atresmedia’s Neox usually take over a 3% share, with some of their most-watched programmes exceeding half a million viewers.

As for Sunday’s audience figures, Atreseries gathered the four most watched shows with Allí Abajo (146,000 viewers), Aquí no hay quien viva (95,000), Perception (92,000) and Buscando el Norte (90,000). Real Madrid TV’s live game of Real Madrid’s reserve team was the fifth most watched programme with 73,000 viewers.

The new FTA channels are designed to offer audiences in Spain a more diverse offer, but don’t seem to have got off to a great start.
