The speed of virtual reality’s (VR) arrival onto the broadcasting scene has gathered pace with the news that Eurosport is to launch a new app designed to fans to access new and innovative VR content at the Roland Garros tennis tournament.
Eurosport VR 25 May 2016Only days ago, the pan-European an-continent sports provider announced that it had inked a production partnership with the Tennis Channel for this year’s French Open at Roland Garros, broadcasting the action in 54 countries across Europe, including every minute from every court of the French Open on the Eurosport Player.
Available to download now on iOS, Android and Oculus devices, content can be experienced via VR goggles, such as Samsung Gear VR, as well as solutions such as Google Cardboard. Daily highlights of the best matches at Roland Garros, and exclusive behind the scenes footage, will be available in VR with fans able see the world through the eyes of the tennis players. There will also be 360° on-court views during exclusive player interviews and daily highlights of the best matches, including ‘Shots of the Day’, and exclusive behind the scenes footage in VR.

Using innovative production technologies, the Eurosport VR app will transport fans right to the heart of the action and bring them closer than ever to their heroes,” remarked Eurosport CEO Peter Hutton. “There was an amazing reaction to our first VR video featuring Bode Miller and we can’t wait for fans to experience tennis in VR, many for the very first time.”
