As the demand for Cuban content increases in the US, Olympusat plans to expand CubaPlay Television’s reach after six years of airing only in Puerto Rico.

cubaplayAiming to capitalise on the momentum of America’s closer ties to Cuba, as well as on its already established relationships with Cuban broadcasters and filmmakers, the US media company intends to take CubaPlay Televisión into new markets.

The network, which is currently available on Cablevision Optimum and Liberty Cablevision of Puerto Rico, broadcasts Cuban original programming, including movies, comedies, drama series, musicals, documentaries, telenovelas and cartoon series.

“Our aim is to stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly changing connected world, and bring an unparalleled entertainment experience to our viewers. We always knew that there was a huge audience yearning for Cuban-made television,” stated Tom Mohler, Olympusat’s CEO and president. “With distinctive networks such as CubaPlay, our company reinforces the diversity of the Hispanic American audience, both culturally and geographically.”

The media company claims to be one of the firsts to reintroducing Cuban programming to the US market after 52 years of silence, when it launched the network in Puerto Rico back in 2010. “It was a milestone for American television, a landmark moment in the efforts to connect Cuban-born citizens in the US and Cuban Americans with their cultural roots and heritage,” said the company in a release.
