Consumers will be asked to pay $30 a movie when Sony Pictures new 4K streaming service goes live next week.
Ultra will make its debut in the United States on April 4. It will be available to owners of Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs with Android TV.
“Consumers are rapidly upgrading their living rooms to 4K, and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s new ULTRA streaming service will provide a premium viewing experience to satisfy growing demand for 4K movies and television shows,” said Jake Winett, VP, Consumer Services & Advanced Platforms at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment.
The plans were initially announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, earlier this year.
Titles available will include the new releases Concussion, The Night Before and The Walk, and library titles such as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Ghostbusters.
It’s anticipated many of the Ultra HD titles will feature both 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range. There is also interoperbility with Ultra Violet.
Sony Pictures Store customers that already own HD versions of select titles can upgrade them to 4K on ULTRA for a special discounted price.
