Digi CZ, operator of the satellite TV service New Digi TV, extends its services with the option to view New Digi TV via the internet. From September, all customers of New Digi TV can choose to watch via satellite or via the internet over a set-top-box or mobile device. New Digi TV is thus the first TV operator in Czech Republic to offer its content in two ways.
The internet broadcasting will offer more HD channels. The operator plans to launch 40 HD channels by the end of September. Customers can choose the Basic package and premium packages Sport, Extra and HBO; or the complete offer Maxi. The internet service will also offer digital TV functions such as replay, archive, time shift and recording. Internet TV will be available on up to four devices simultaneously.
Each customer who buys the internet TV service from New Digi TV will get a set-top box. He can choose from two models, allowing wired or wireless Wi-Fi internet connection. There will also be the new service Digi2Go for smartphones and tablets running Android or iOS. The service Digi2Go will not be available separately without a set-top box. For now Digi2Go will not work on PCs due to rights issues for mainly the exclusive sports content on New Digi TV.
The prices for internet TV will not differ much from the satellite option, Digi said. The operator will disclose the prices at the launch date, and according to Vladimir Rusnak, Executive Director of Digi CZ, the operator is preparing promotions for the launch. Customers who buy internet TV together with Digi Internet will get discounts similar to those provided today for combining satellite TV and internet. However, internet TV will work on an internet connection from any provider.
The operator has already opened pre-registrations for the new service. Applicants who register by the end of August will get the package Sport or Extra free for two months.
Digi CZ will provide the content of the new internet TV service, as well as marketing and customer service. The company itself will provide the technological part of the service, based on its experience in OTT and IPTV. The software supplier will be the company 4NET.TV solutions, whose IPTV platform has become the basis for New Digi TV over the internet and the service Digi2Go.
