France’s Cdiscount has launched what it has described as a “world first” streaming service.
According to Les Echos, Cstream combines music (Spotify, Deezer and FnacJukebox), video from Netflix (though not series) and books from Amazon Kindle in a single offer that costs €9.99 a month to receive.
Cstream can be watched on all screens and simultaneously on up to three devices.
It effectively consists of three applications – Cstream Video, Cstream Music and Cstream Books –outsourced to different companies, namely VOD Factory for the image, Snowite et Simbals for music and Youboox for writing.
Cdiscount has secured three-year contracts for each of the three service offered by Cstream.
Their content includes 300 films, with 50 new titles added each month, over 1,000 programmes aimed at young viewers, 5 million music titles, 5000 books and 30 press titles.
Cdiscount was founded in 1999 and is now a subsidiary of Cnova N.V., the e-commerce division of the group Casino.
It has secured over 16 million customers since its launch.
